Laurel Police: Stolen vehicle recovered early Monday morning
LAUREL, Del. – A stolen vehicle out of Laurel was recovered early Monday morning in Cambridge.
Shortly before 4:30 a.m., officers responded to the Wexford Village apartment complex for a reported stolen vehicle. Officers were already patrolling the area and arrived at the scene quickly, learning that the victim started their gold 2012 Chevrolet Malibu and left the keys in the ignition. The victim then reportedly went back into their residence for several minutes, and when they returned to the parking lot, their vehicle was missing.
Less than 45 minutes later, Laurel Police were notified by Cambridge Police that they had found the stolen vehicle and were holding it for the investigation.
Laurel Police are reminding citizens that vehicle thefts are crimes of opportunity and are rarely planned ahead of time. Starting your vehicle with the keys in the ignition is strongly discouraged, and securing your vehicles, leaving valuable items out of plain view, and not leaving keys easily accessible will decrease your chances of being victimized.
