Fire causes over $1 million in damage to Smyrna home

SMYRNA, Del. – An investigation is underway following an early morning house fire in Kent County.

At around 3:15 a.m., firefighters responded to the 100 block of Furies Street in the Ashland Development, near Smyrna. Crews battled the blaze for roughly two hours, which caused damage to several other nearby dwellings. The home was occupied at the time of the fire, but all occupants were able to safely evacuate.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the Red Cross is assisting the occupants. A total of four other homes sustained exposure damage.

Damage has been estimated at over $1 million.
