Eden crash claims life of one, injures four others
EDEN, Md. – Maryland State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of one and injured four others Monday night.
Shortly after 5 p.m., troopers responded to northbound Route 13 at Route 529 in Eden for a reported two vehicle crash. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Corolla was traveling east on Route 529 in the median crossover at the intersection of Route 13, while a Jeep was traveling north on Route 13. The Toyota reportedly failed to yield to the Jeep and entered the roadway, causing the Jeep to hit the passenger side of the Toyota.
The front passenger of the Toyota, identified as 65-year-old Awatif Ibrahim of Princess Anne, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, a 70-year-old man, and a rear passenger, a 28-year-old female, were taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional for treatment. The driver of the Jeep, a 32-year-old man, and passenger, a 35-year-old man, both of Chestertown, were also taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional for treatment.
Police do not believe that speed or impaired driving were factors in this crash. Route 13 northbound was closed for approximately four hours following the crash.
