Dover woman arrested for DUI following pursuit
DOVER, Del. – A Dover woman was arrested early Saturday morning on DUI and other related charges.
At around 5:10 a.m., officers were conducting traffic control on North DuPont Highway due to a vehicle crash, when a vehicle approached the area and failed to yield to the emergency vehicles, nearly hitting one, and fled at a high rate of speed. Officers tried to stop the driver, identified as 37-year-old Shafequah Freeman, at which time she continued fleeing, eventually traveling westbound on Loockerman Street. Freeman reportedly ran several red lights and almost hit several curbs. The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.
Officers in the area saw Freeman’s vehicle stopped near Forest Street and South West Street shortly after the pursuit ended, and Freeman was taken into custody. It was determined that she was under the influence of alcohol, and she was subsequently charged with DUI, disregarding a police officer signal, failure to yield/change lanes for stopped emergency vehicles, and several traffic charges.
Freeman was later released on an unsecured bond.
