Dover man injures officer while resisting arrest
DOVER, Del. – A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he resisted and injured an officer.
Police were called to the Capital Inn at around 1:15 a.m. for a man trespassing on the property. As officers were responding, it was relayed that the suspect was leaving, and a description was provided. Officers located a suspect matching the description and told him to stop, but he reportedly kept walking away from officers. When officers tried to take him into custody, he began actively resisting arrest and would not put his hands behind his back.
Three officers were eventually able to take the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Matthew Clendaniel, into custody. One officer sustained minor injuries to his lower body during the incident. It was determined that Clendaniel was under the influence of alcohol. While being placed into a patrol vehicle, he allegedly spit on an officer.
Clendaniel was charged with second degree assault injure a law enforcement officer, offensive touching, third degree criminal trespass, menacing, breach of release, public intoxication, and drunk on a highway. He was released on a $4,250 unsecured bond.
