BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – A Bridgeville man is behind bars on murder charges following an investigation that began over the weekend.

At around 11:15 p.m. Friday, Bridgeville Police responded to 309 Cedar Street for a reported missing person. When officers arrived at the scene, they saw that a violent confrontation had taken place in the home, and that one of the residents, 52-year-old Troy Scofield, could not be located. The caller reported seeing fellow housemate Alan Alcantara leaving the residence in a blue 2006 Honda Civic before police were contacted.

The DSP Homicide Unit assumed the investigation and were able to link Alcantara to Scofield’s disappearance and apparent homicide. On Saturday, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Alcantara for first degree murder.

On Sunday, detectives found Alcantara’s blue Honda Civic parked on a commercial property in the 20500 block of Dupont Boulevard in Georgetown, at which time detectives reportedly found Scofield’s body in the trunk.

At around 3 a.m. Tuesday, officers with the Dover Police Department responded to the 1000 block of South Little Creek Road for a report of a suspicious person, finding Alcantara hiding in a shed. He was taken into custody and charged with first degree murder.

Alcantara was held at SCI on a $1 million cash bond.
