The Brightside: Vox Concordia

DELMARVA – A new sound has been formed on the Eastern Shore.

Vox Concordia is a group of diverse select vocalists with a passion for singing, and a hope to keep the arts alive in the community. Artistic Director Veronica Tomanek tells us the chamber choir was birthed from COVID. Musically-inclined community members wanted to sing again in a social setting, so after pulling a few strings and striking a few of the right chords, Vox Concordia came to life.

We’ve got lawyers, doctors, engineers, accountants, a pulitzer prize winner. 57 teachers, professional musicians, non-professional musicians, you name it we’ve got it in the group. I love the idea of mixing generations, I find that everyone benefits from it,” says Veronica.

We’re told they typically sing music from the classic secular realm. With two concerts under their belt, the choir’s repertoire is growing, and their skills improving.

“In fact that’s part of our mission is to do some community outreach especially in the schools,” said Veronica.

The group collaborates with other organizations in the community in hopes of inspiring young people to keep the arts alive, which Guest Artist and Professor of Voice at Salisbury University, John Wesley Wright, says that mission is highlighted every time they sing.

“I hope that they are transported as our job in the music business is to touch move and inspire,” says John.

The group’s biggest hope is that others will loosen their vocal pipes and join.
