Speaker Pro Tem Sheree Sample-Hughes speaks out after being asked to step down

MARYLAND – Speaker Pro Tem Sheree Sample-Hughes has released a statement on being asked to step down from her duties.

“It was brought to my attention by the Speaker of the House of Delegates on May 16, 2023, that I have been asked to step down from my duties as Speaker Pro Tempore of the Maryland House of Delegates. In accordance with the Maryland House Rules, Regular Session 2023, Organization and Procedure, 2. Presiding Officer (b) “The Speaker and Speaker Pro Tem shall hold office from the date of their election until the earlier of: (1) The beginning of the regular session of the Maryland General Assembly…” I will continue to faithfully serve the citizens of District 37A in the Maryland House of Delegates until otherwise. It is my firm belief that geographical diversity has a place in the Maryland House of Delegates.”
