‘Project Hygiene’ cracks down on bullying, builds self-esteem at North Salisbury Elementary

SALISBURY, Md.- North Salisbury Elementary School is cracking down on bullying and building up students’ self-esteem.

The school’s new initiative ‘Project Hygiene’ was made possible by grant funding from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore. Staff tell 47ABC the initiative was birthed after reports of a student getting bullied.

With a staff referral, students can get free toiletry bags that contain feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, and more.

School Counselor Adrienne Jenkins says she hopes it will also help with productivity in the classroom. “Whether it’s grade wise, their appearance, or their hygiene, if they don’t feel good about themselves and comfortable they won’t give school their all,” Jenkins said.

“We want them to feel good about themselves and want them to know they have a safe place to come with this school counselor’s office. Come on down and talk to us and if you need something grab it.”

Staff tell us that the response has been positive so far throughout the school community. Those toiletry bags are given out with discretion for student’s privacy.
