New funding provides additional mental health resources for Delaware farmers

DELAWARE – The Delaware Farm Bureau recently announced a new program to get first state farmers connected to mental health resources.

It’s part of their Healthy Farmers grow Healthy Crops campaign. Funding comes from the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Strategic Action Fund.

The farm bureau tells us that farmers have many stressors that can impact productivity from weather, supplies, and other costs.

They tell 47ABC this initiative not only gets them connected but educates them on the importance of their physical and mental wellbeing. “We are all about wanting to make sure our farmers are healthy and that they’re doing well so they grow healthy crops for our communities and the nation. They’re the backbone to this county and without them we would have no food on our tables,” DEFB Marketing Specialist Mikayla Paul said.

The American Farm Bureau Federation’s Farm State of Mind website connects farmers with local and national resources for mental health support and outreach services.

In collaboration with Life Line Screening, DEFB will provide screenings workshops. The first screening will be this Thursday, May 4th at Ross Station Event Center in Seaford.
