Local family raising awareness on kidney cancer ahead of annual walk in Salisbury
DELMARVA – Ahead of the upcoming Salisbury Kidney Walk slated for later this month, one local woman is sharing her husband’s story after he lost his battle to kidney cancer.
Cris Henderson tells us she discovered blood in her late husband Rick’s urine, which later turned into a kidney cancer diagnosis that came as a complete shock.
Rick passed away back in 2018, but Henderson says getting connected to the National Kidney Foundation’s local support group was a big help to her family.
She tells us she still walks in her husband honor and now has devoted her life to educating others. “Each person is their own best advocate. If you just leave it in other people’s hands you don’t know if you’re doing all you can or not,” Henderson said.
“That’s why I’m really glad the walk is back to feel that one day when you know you’re all fighting for the same reason.”
The Kidney Walk will be Sunday, May 21st at WinterPlace Park with check-in starting at 9a.m.
47ABC’s Rob Petree will MC the event so be sure to go out and say hello.
