LEWES, Del. – A Lewes man is behind bars on DUI charges following a traffic stop Friday afternoon.

At around 1 p.m., a trooper on patrol stopped a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway, near the intersection at Dairy Farm Road, after the driver reportedly accelerated and passed several vehicles without signaling, nearly causing an accident. On contact with the driver, identified as 69-year-old Louis Morelli, the trooper detected signs of impairment.

A computer check showed that Morelli had four previous DUI convictions and was subsequently taken into custody. He was charged with 5th offense DUI and numerous traffic violations, and was held at SCI on a $7,000 secured bond.
