Fundraiser set to help repair Sarah Martin Done House in Princess Anne

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Somerset County Historical Society is looking to raise money to repair one of it’s historic properties. The volunteer organization is focused on repairs at the Sarah Martin Done House in Princess Anne.

“Last Fall, during a storm, a tree fell, fell right on the corner of the roof of the Sarah Martin Done House and did some pretty significant damage, and that’s a costly repair,” says Carrie Samis, Manager of Main Street Princess Anne.

The historic property was originally built in 1823 and stood where the current Princess Anne Post office resides. It was later moved to its current location behind the Teackle Mansion. The building retains period woodwork, a decorative corner stair and a even federal style mantel in the living room.

Samis says, “With these old historic homes and other historic buildings, of course upkeep is continual and it’s costly when you’re restoring historic properties.”

Officials say they need to repair the roof to preserve the building, but repairs aren’t simple.

“They do everything from faux woodgraining on doors to faux marbeling on baseboards, as it would have been when the house was originally constructed. So there are a lot of specialists that work on properties like and yeah, you can’t just hire anyone to do this work,” explains Samis.

This weekend they are holding a vintage pop-up sale at the Sarah Martin Done House. All money raised will go to the Historical Society and help fund repairs. That sale runs from 9 to 5 on Saturday and 10 to 4 on Sunday. They’ve got a preview right now on the Somerset Choice Station Antiques facebook and instagram pages.
