Food drive in Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – Veterans of Foreign Wars teamed up with the Maryland Food Bank in Salisbury on Friday to provide food for families in need.

They started at noon today and wanted to help the community as much as possible with food prices being so high. VFW District Commander Calvin Mitchell says it’s important to help as many people as possible. He tells us that as a veteran he has a responsibility to assist families and be a community leader while inspiring others to serve as well.

“We ride around sometimes and see people sitting on the street, beggin for food and also when you go to the food market people are always in there complaining that the prices are too high, I can’t get this so I brought it back to my meeting and said maybe we need to have a food drive.”

Mitchell says they have given out over 7,000lbs. of food and are happy to provide families with items that they normally would not be able to afford at the super market.
