Eighteen-month-old dead following incident in Preston

PRESTON, Md. – An 18-month-old child is dead following an incident in Preston Friday. The Caroline County Sheriff’s Department says EMS and fire officials responded to Marsh Creek Road for a child struck by a vehicle. Their investigation shows that the child was playing in the back yard when they were struck by a vehicle. The child died from their injuries on the scene.

Officials say the driver of the vehicle was the child’s mother. They say she did not show any signs of impairment and officials are investigating how the incident happened.

The child was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office to determine cause and manner of death.
