Camping fee increase proposed at Assateague Island National Seashore
BERLIN, Md. – A camping fee increase has been proposed at Assateague Island National Seashore.
We’re told the proposal includes raising the cost of regular campsites in the Oceanside and Bayside campgrounds by $10 per night, the Group sites by $30 per night, and the horse camp site by $30 per night. The proposed changes would only apply to front country camping fees; backcountry camping fees would remain the same.
Officials say one of the main reasons for the proposed increase is the growing gap between the Seashore’s camping fees and other campgrounds in the area.
Current and proposed increased fees are as follows:
- Front Country Camp Site: Currently $30/night, proposed $40/night
- Group Camp Site (7-25 people): Currently $50/site/night, proposed $80/site/night
- Horse Camp Site (Max 6 people + 6 horses): Currently $50/site/night, proposed $80/site/night
If adopted, the new fees would take effect on October 1, 2023.
