Bridgeville man killed in weekend crash, police investigating
SEAFORD, Del. – Police are investigating a fatal crash in the Seaford area that happened early Sunday morning.
Just after 5:30 a.m., police say a 1999 Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on Hearns Pond Road at a high rate of speed, approaching the intersection of Conrail Road, which is controlled by a four-way stop sign with a railroad crossing just west of the intersection. The vehicle reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign and continued through the intersection and over the railroad crossing, which caused the vehicle to go airborne. Police say the vehicle then landed in the center of Hearns Pond Road, where it began spinning and went off the road, crossing a ditch and hitting a tree.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as 33-year-old Jamie Phillips of Bridgeville, was not properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hearns Pond Road was closed for roughly 4.5 hours while the crash was investigated and the road was cleared.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to contact Senior Corporal R. Albert at 302-703-3266 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
