Faculty and government officials celebrate the Beaver Run Elementary School dedication ceremony
WICOMICO COUNTY, M.D. – After sixty-five-years, Beaver Run Elementary school is finally in a brand new location that just happens to be about 20 feet from the old school. The school is finally getting an upgrade from its original location that was built back in 1958. It was a multi-million dollar project where officials celebrated with a dedication ceremony Thursday.
“The old building was wonderful in many ways , but this new facility that we have just brings a whole new element to education,” Twilley said.
Principal of Beaver Run Elementary, Curtis Twilley, say safety was a number one priority.
“There are several security features that will keep everybody safe,” Twilley said. “It’s Just a very healthy and clean environment.”
The new school features cameras throughout the entire building, alarm systems and door switches that let faculty know how long doors have been left open for. Former students were joined by local leaders Thursday to officially rededicate and celebrate the building.
“When we built this, we were all in the old building twenty feet away, literally twenty feet away and they got to watch this rise from a flat concrete slab all the way up and would keep looking over the fence for 2 years and just watch this thing rise,” Twilley said.
The old building had issues with septic overflow, making the water undrinkable. The old building was also said to have black mold, but not at the new location. Officials say there is a new water filtration system and top of the line HVAC system.
“It’s so important that the environment be a great environment for the children to study in, live in and they spend so much time here, its important that we make sure we can give them the best we have to offer,” Cannon said.
County Council President John Cannon was on hand, and says improvements were much needed at Beaver Run and this new building will help kids thrive for years to come.
“It’s an important investment because children, especially young children, they are so impressionable that it is important for them to get a great start.
