12-year-old, Dover man arrested following foot pursuit
DOVER, Del. – A foot chase Friday evening led to charges for a Dover man and juvenile.
At around 6:40 p.m., officers reportedly observed a 12-year-old who was wanted by juvenile probation, walking in the downtown area with another subject, identified as 21-year-old James Ayres. Officers tried to take the juvenile into custody in the area of South Bradford Street and Division Street, but the juvenile and Ayres ran away.
Police were able to take the juvenile into custody after the foot chase and after reportedly pulling a firearm from his waistband. Ayres got away at this time, however, he was seen a short time later inside of a vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and Ayres fled again on foot, but was eventually taken into custody.
The 12-year-old was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and resisting arrest, and was held at the Stevenson Juvenile Detention Facility on a $21,000 secured bail.
Ayers was charged with two counts of resisting arrest and released on his own recognizance.
