“She brings so much light:” Fundraising underway for Ocean City woman recovering after double-lung transplant
OCEAN CITY, Md. – The community is rallying behind an Ocean City woman who recently underwent a double-lung transplant operation.
Emily Sachs Heiner, 35, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 2. We’re told she went most of her life without many complications until her late twenties.
All that changed six months ago when her right lung collapsed for the second time.
Heiner’s recent surgery was successful, but she will face a massive medical bill. We’re told she has Medicare, and that only covers 80% of her $1.2 million in medical costs.
There’s now a fundraising page up at the Children’s Organ Transplant Association in her honor. “It just shows the support of the community to come and help each other. It would help so much in the long run with all the bills and just with us getting back to a regular life after she can get home, especially with new lungs and everything,” Husband Scott Heiner said.
“She brings so much light to every room she walks into.”
There’s been strong community support for Heiner so far including various fundraising events.
As of airtime, that COTA page has already raised on $12,000.
