REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A Seaford man is behind bars following a shoplifting at the Rehoboth Outlets Saturday evening.

At around 6:45 p.m., troopers responded to the Coach Outlet located at 34986 Midway Outlet Drive for a reported shoplifting. Troopers arrived at the scene and learned that an unknown man had walked into the store and stolen numerous handbags that were on a display table. The handbags were valued at over $3,700 in total, and the suspect fled in a white Dodge Caravan.

At around 8:30 p.m., troopers on patrol in the Greenwood area found the vehicle parked at the Valero gas station at 12712 Sussex Highway. Contact was made with the driver, identified as 34-year-old Steven Cornish, and troopers observed signs of impairment and smelled marijuana. Cornish’s passenger, a 30-year-old man, was reportedly in need of adult support for his mental health diagnoses, and Cornish was the designated caretaker for the man at the time. Troopers then found and recovered the stolen handbags from inside the vehicle.

Cornish was charged with shoplifting over $1500, second degree reckless endangerment, crime against a vulnerable adult, driving under the influence of drugs, and driving while suspended or revoked. He was held at SCI on a $4,500 cash bond.
