Rain, strong storms possible Sunday; Flood watch issued

1

An area of low pressure will approach Delmarva on Sunday from the south, first with a round of rain in the morning and another round arriving later in the day. A few storms in the afternoon and evening may be strong to severe with damaging winds as the main threat. An isolated spin-up tornado can’t be ruled out.

The key factor for severe weather development will hinge on how much time of sun will occur after the morning round of rain moves out. Enough early afternoon heating will increase the intensity of thunderstorms as the area of low pressure moves into the region.

With much of Delmarva receiving 2″+ of rain Friday and Friday night, flooding will be a concern with an additional 1-2″ of rain possible on Sunday. The National Weather Service has a Flood Watch in place for Delaware and the upper shore of Maryland through Sunday evening.
