SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. –
The National Weather Service will be visiting Sussex County Sunday to survey the storm damage from Saturday evening. On Saturday the NWS reported “At 6:12PM EST, a confirmed tornado was located over Ellendale, or 7 miles north of Georgetown, moving east at 50 mph.”
Officials will be conducting storm surveys near Bridgeville/Ellendale in Sussex County, and areas in New Jersey.
While it is assumed it was a tornado that touched down in Sussex County, it is unconfirmed until the NWS comes to the area and conducts its survey. According to the NWS, the pattern of damage determines if it was a tornado, not how much damage was caused.
A final assessment is expected by Sunday evening. The storm survey will be available on this website.
