Fenix Youth Project opens doors to new youth shelter, accepting donations

SALISBURY, Md. – The Fenix Youth Project is now expanding their efforts to tackle the growing concerns of youth homelessness locally. They’ve now opened the doors to their first Our Spot Youth Shelter.

Executive Director Amber Green tells us it’s the first shelter on the Eastern Shore geared to minors.  The facility serves youth ages 14-24 years old and can occupy up to 9 individuals at a time.

Funding support comes from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, Somerset Health Department, and more.

The space will also have a live-in residential assistance (RA) and housing manager helping with day-to-day operations. “Those major components will help us do intensive case management with the ones that are here at the house, and we can be able to truly put that focus on them. So, it’s not a huge facility and it’s not something where they’ll get lost in translation. We’re really, really, dedicated to working with these young people to help them with their plan.”

Green tells us they hope to open additional shelters in both Worcester and Somerset counties.

The facility is in need of donations, which are being accepted at their drop-in center.
