Fatal single-vehicle crash under investigation in Harbeson

HARBESON, Del. – An investigation is underway following a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of one Saturday night.

At around 9:20 p.m., police say a 2007 GMC Yukon being driven by a 47-year-old Milton man was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway (Route 9), approaching a slight right curve just west of Harbeson Road (Route 5). For unknown reasons, the driver allegedly failed to maintain control of the vehicle and crossed the center line of the road and into the westbound lane. The vehicle continued traveling in an easterly direction as it crossed through the intersection of Harbeson Road before exiting the north edge of the roadway and continuing through the front yards of several residences. The vehicle eventually hit a utility police and caught fire.

The driver, identified as 47-year-old Robert Coulbourne Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.
