Delaware nonprofit hosts bike distribution for kids in need

DOVER, Del.- Over 275 bikes were given to kids in need as Free Bikes 4 Kidz Delaware hosted their first ever distribution Saturday.  It was in partnership with BayHealth and held at Delaware State University’s stadium.

FB4K is a non-profit organization that collects donated and used bikes for kids with a goal of creating positive health outcomes.

We’re told children who received a pair of wheels were identified by several local partners who work directly with that population. Volunteers were also on hand providing bike safety information and sharing the importance of kids remaining active.

Organizers tell 47 ABC the event was also a way to bring the community together. “We have over 125 volunteers in just the first couple of months we’ve been around to do this and looking forward to really the future with building that base up,” Free Bikes 4 Kidz Delaware’s Tom Vaughan said.

“It’s really heartwarming to see the community response and hopefully we’ll be making a lot of kids happy.”

Vaughan tells us the Delaware chapter is one of the more recently established chapters of FB4K.  He also says they’ll continue to collect more donations and expect to have another giveaway later this year.
