Christiana Mall shooting remains under investigation

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a shooting at the Christiana Mall that happened Saturday evening.

Just before 6:45 p.m., troopers responded to the mall for a reported shooting at the food court entrance. It was learned that three male suspects confronted an 18-year-old male as he was leaving the food court and began physically assaulting the victim, at which point the victim’s two friends became involved and began fighting with the suspects. During the fight, one suspect reportedly removed a handgun from his waistband and began firing multiple rounds. The first victim and his friend, a 16-year-old male, were both hit by three rounds in the torso and lower extremities. The suspects then fled the scene.

Police say there was one 18-year-old who was standing on the sidewalk outside of the entrance when he was hit by one round in the lower extremity. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The two victims who were hit multiple times were taken to area hospitals and are listed in stable condition.

The suspects are described as three males in their late teens all wearing dark clothing. Surveillance video of the suspects can be found here.
