Wicomico Co. man sentenced for drug trafficking, firearm offenses

1280 Kyle Carey

SALISBURY, Md. – A Wicomico County man has been sentenced to over two decades behind bars for drug trafficking and firearm offenses.

31-year-old Kyle Carey was convicted earlier this year of possession of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, and related offenses. Late last week, he was sentenced to 25 years, 5 of which he will be required to serve without the possibility of parole.

On December 6, 2020, officers with the Salisbury Police Department responded to a residence in Wicomico County related to a drug investigation and an individual who had fled from police. When officers arrived, they found Carey in the backyard standing next to a vehicle. Carey initially fled but was quickly taken into custody. Officers also observed a loaded handgun, a digital scale, and amounts of marijuana and methamphetamine pills in the vehicle. The firearm was sent for DNA comparison testing and Carey was found to match the major contributor DNA collected from the handgun. A search of Carey’s Facebook profile data also reportedly showed that Carey was actively selling marijuana and methamphetamine pills.

Carey is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a 2012 conviction in Federal Court for conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise.
