Weather Tidbits: How to Build a Homemade Rain Gauge

This Weather Tidbits explains how to make a homemade rain gauge. You need 3 items to build a rain gauge at home; a two liter bottle, 6 inches of masking tape and a ruler. You need to first cut the top of the bottle off; then you would copy the ruler marking to the tape. Once those things are completed; you flip the cut piece and replace on top. Lastly, you line the tape up with the top of the water and you make sure to add 1″ of water to keep it from tipping. As the rain falls, it collects inside the bottle; record the number and empty it after each event.
