Weather Tidbits: Distance vs. Weather

This Weather Tidbits discusses how the type of air plays a role on the distance of a baseball. When it’s cold, the cold air is denser, making it tougher for the ball to push air molecules out of its way. This means the batter will be out, as the ball will not carry as far and the outfielder will have a better chance of catching it. When it’s humid, the humid air contains more water but less heavier air molecules creating less “drag” on the ball. This will mean a home run, as the ball will carry farther out.
