Suspect in December 2021 Dollar General shooting found guilty

1280 Dupont Jr

SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man has been convicted of charges stemming from an armed robbery in 2021.

The incident happened on December 27, 2021, at the Dollar General located at 1005 North Salisbury Boulevard. During the incident, the suspect, identified as Gary Dupont Jr., shot the female victim once in the abdomen as she tried to take his photo to give to law enforcement.  She underwent emergency surgery at TidalHealth and survived.

Dupont was arrested in early April 2022 by agents of the United States Marshals Service.

On Wednesday, he was found guilty of attempted second degree murder, first and second degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, handgun on person, and loaded handgun on person.

We’re told a pre-sentence investigation has been ordered by the judge. Dupont will remain in custody pending sentencing.
