SALISBURY, Md.- Community activist Jermichael Mitchell now throwing his hat into the political ring, announcing his candidacy for the next Mayor of Salisbury.

Mitchell is a Salisbury native and worked for the city as a youth development specialist for two years.

He tells 47ABC outside of activism, getting into politics has always been one of his goals.

He adds that Salisbury has seen much growth in recent years including all the downtown projects.

Now, he says a focus must be put on building up the community. “What about our neighborhoods? A lot of people will tell you in the last 8 to 9 years nothing has changed in our neighborhoods,” Mitchell said.

“Especially trying to make decisions when it comes to the budgets in our city and our neighborhoods and things of that nature. I just feel like we need people who truly represent the community in those seats to have a voice and to try to move our city forward.”

Mitchell tells us he has plans to expand community and youth programming.

He also looks to empower and educate the community on the importance of voting and letting their voice be heard.

The Salisbury mayoral election is set for this November.
