Delmar man convicted of assault
SALISBURY, Md. – A Delmar man has been convicted of first degree assault stemming from a July 2022 incident.
On July 28th, 49-year-old Charles Ecker and the female victim became involved in a verbal altercation while driving in the victim’s vehicle. When the two arrived at Ecker’s residence in Delmar, the argument reportedly escalated, and Ecker assaulted the victim. The victim then ran into Ecker’s residence to seek assistance from his mother. Moments later, the victim left the residence to prevent Ecker from stealing her belongings, at which point Ecker repeatedly hit her, causing her to lose consciousness. When the victim regained consciousness, Ecker was on top of her with his hands around her neck.
The victim escaped from Ecker and fled in her vehicle when Ecker’s mother called him into the residence. She was treated for her injuries at Atlantic General Hospital.
Ecker was convicted earlier this week of first degree assault, second degree assault, and reckless endangerment. Sentencing was postponed pending completion of a pre-sentence investigation, and Ecker will remain in custody pending sentencing.
