Wicomico Parks & Recs to host public meeting on Delmar sports complex project

DELMAR, Del. – Wicomico Parks and Recreation will host a public meeting for a project that could bring several changes to the Mason Dixon Sports Complex in Delmar.

A few years ago, the department bought 3 acres of land next to the complex.

We’re told there’s been growing concerns of limited parking for both that park and Delmar Elementary that sits just across the street. Pedestrian safety is also a concern, as individuals have to walk across a busy road to access the park.

Parks and Recs Director Steve Miller says the main goal for the project is to increase public safety along with several other benefits for the town. “If we’re able to make these improvements it could enhance our tourism value. We’re right down the street from the Parker Complex and you have the potential to have another complex very close to it that could be utilized a lot,” Miller said.

“We’re trying to make sure that our vision, I say that collectively between the town, the school and the little league, reflects that of the public so we want to hear from the public.”

Miller tells us the project is still in the beginning stages as funding hasn’t been secured yet.

The public meeting is scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday, February 8th beginning at 6p.m. at Delmar Elementary.

The hired engineering firm will share a full presentation for community members at that meeting to get an idea of what’s to come.
