Traffic stop leads to DUI, firearm charges for Smyrna man

SMYRNA, Del. – A Smyrna man was arrested following a traffic stop over the weekend.

At around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, an officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on North DuPont Boulevard, in the area of Northwest Front Street. The officer stopped the vehicle and took the driver, 44-year-old Bernard Williams Jr., into custody. Further investigation led to the seizure of 4.3 grams of cocaine, a loaded 40 mm handgun, a fixed baton, and an unknown amount of cash.

Williams was charged with 4th offense DUI, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, and several related charges. He was held at SCI on a$60,540 secured bond.
