SU Softball ranked third in national preseason poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (SU Athletics) – The Salisbury University softball team will begin the 2023 season as the third-ranked team in the country, according to the results of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Sea Gulls garnered 230 points in the poll to rank third in the poll. Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) rival, CNU, was picked as the preseason favorites followed by Trine in the second spot. Texas Lutheran and Berry were ranked fourth and fifth respectively after Salisbury.

The team will play three doubleheaders against teams that are ranked in the NFCA Preseason Top 25. As part of its season-opening weekend series, Salisbury will take on No. 21 Rochester in a game on Feb. 25 and Feb. 26. Salisbury will travel down to Virginia Beach to take on the No. 8 Virginia Wesleyan Marlins on March 1. Salisbury will conclude the regular season against No. 1 CNU on April 30.

Salisbury is coming off of a stellar 2022 season where the team finished with a 42-8 overall record, including a perfect 29-0 mark at Sea Gull Softball Stadium which continued its home win streak to 55 games. The 55-game streak is the longest across all three NCAA divisions.

The squad swept its way through the NCAA Regional and Super Regional rounds with wins over Framingham St., Endicott and Mt. St. Joseph. The team earned a spot in its NCAA College World Series and finished fifth nationally.

Salisbury 2023 season begins at home on Saturday, Feb. 25 with a weekend series against No. 21 Rochester and Stockton.
