Salisbury Zoo holding unique “Chomp Your Ex” fundraiser
SALISBURY, Md. – A unique fundraiser kicks off this Friday at the Salisbury Zoo.
The Chomp Your Ex fundraiser is being put on by the Chesapeake Association of Zookeepers. This event allows participants to purchase a mealworm or cricket, also known as a “Chomp”, name it after an ex, and feed it to a zoo animal of their choice. Participants also get a video with their animal and get a chance to get up close and personal with some very cool creatures.
47 ABC spoke with some of the zookeepers that put the event together who say the money raised from the event will go towards helping other animals.
“All the proceeds from the event will go to us that we can disperse to other conservation efforts. it will go to some of our animals here at the zoo for enrichment purposes so it is really going to a great cause,” said Zookeeper Cheyanne Storm.
“So what they get when they purchase a bug, a whole video, they get some information about the animal so it adds a little bit more to the process — so I think it’s cool they can be educated at the same time,” said Zookeeper Jessica Meyer.
The event begins at 5 p.m. Friday, February 10th, and officials tell us another Chomp Your Ex fundraiser will be held after Valentine’s Day.
