Public input wanted for potential expansion of development district in Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, Md. – Georgetown officials are seeking public input on a potential expansion of its downtown development district.
The Downtown Development District’s Act invests state dollars to spark economic growth across cities and towns in Delaware.
We’re told the 83 acres of the initial site plan stretched from East Market St. all the way to Ward 2.
Town Manager Gene Dvornick says with nearly 22 acres available for the expansion, the possibilities are endless. Thats why they want to hear from residents on what businesses and other additions they think would be a good fit. “It really makes a difference. It brings employment, it brings opportunity, and certainly the economic development impact,” Dvornick said.
All of the available acreage may not be used, as Dvornick tells us the expansion could include small additions with opportunities to continue growth in the future.
Dvornick also tells us the town will hold the designation for approximately 10 years, meaning they will have until 2026 to finish the project with the possibility of two 5-year extensions.
The district encompasses a total of 105 acres.
You can submit ideas in writing to info@georgetowndel.com or in person at 37 The Circle.
Input will be accepted until March 31st.
