New survey seeks input from Delawareans on housing needs, concerns

DELAWARE – Housing insecurity continues in the first state. The Delaware State Housing Authority now wants to hear residents’ needs through a new survey.

It’s a part of the non-profit’s routine comprehensive needs assessment.

We’re told rising home prices, increasing mortgage rates, and the low availability of rental units are just some of the challenges many Delawareans are facing.

The housing authority tells us the state could soon be facing a housing crisis and hearing from residents is the first step to spark change. “With this research and these findings we’ll be able to prioritize housing services, target more specific programs and policy responses, and better coordinate the use of federal, state, and local funds,” Public Relations Director Laurie Jacobs said.

“We’re encouraging everyone to really raise their voice now. Let us know what they’d like to see and what challenges they’re facing so we can come up with some great solutions for the future.”

DSHA tells us Delawareans have several resources available to them now, including the Delaware Mortgage Relief Program.

The program provides up to $50,000 per household for those who are behind with things like mortgage payments to utilities.

The survey is now open and will take responses until March 31st.
