New program provides students interested in healthcare free tuition while earning a paycheck

DELAWARE – In Delaware, a new partnership provides students interested in health care the opportunity to earn a paycheck and receive a free education.

Bayhealth recently launched its “Earn While You Learn” workforce development program alongside Polytech and Sussex Tech Adult Education.

CNA, Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant students can receive a free tuition and an hourly stipend. Now to get that, they’ll have to commit to work at Bayhealth for two years after completing the program.

We’re told shortages are still being seen across the industry and this is a way to help fill that void. “Many times, funding for the classes is a problem. With having the partnership with the employer, helping them with their funding makes it possible for them to even take the class,” Sussex Tech Adult Education Supervisor Kelly Whaley said.

“We can get the students in here and get them educated, get them certified in their individual fields, and put them out into the employment world which is what we all need,” Health Professions Coordinator Shelly Doyle said.

Sussex Tech tells us they’re excited for the new partnership and that enrollment for the first cohort is now open. If interested, you can contact the Shelly Doyle at Sussex Tech office at (302)-856-9035.
