Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long encourages nurses to get involved in policy making

DOVER, Del. – Delaware Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long participated in a webinar Monday to highlight the important role nurses can play in policy making.

The webinar on “Nurse State Legislators” presented recent data trends and discussed how nurses can become more involved in the policy arena.

Nurses are the glue to the health care system, according to Lt. Governor Hall-Long, who is actually a nurse herself. She encouraged nurses from across the State of Delaware to get more involved and help make a difference in government.

“Get involved, participate in organizations, and come to our state capital,” Lt. Governor Hall-Long told our Rob Petree. “Get to know your elected officials and consider serving local, county, state, or federal government positions.”

Nurses undoubtedly spend the most time with patients, whether that be in a hospital, clinic, or a home setting, and in doing so trust is built through constant communication and understanding. It’s those qualities that are critical when it comes to effective policy making.

“Every one of us has an important role, people trust nurses,” Lt. Governor Hall-Long said. “People trust us with our lives and so they need to trust us to develop really solid policy, and not just around health, but around our jobs, around our children’s education, around access to health, our environment, climate, and all of those issues that matter to our families.”

The webinar was sponsored by the University of Delaware’s School of Health Sciences and the Biden Institute.
