Gulls women’s lacrosse picked for fourth in the nation
SALISBURY, Md. (SU Athletics) – The Salisbury University women’s lacrosse team will enter the 2023 season as the fourth-ranked team in the country, according to the Inside Lacrosse Women/Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Preseason Poll. The poll was released on Monday.
The IL Women/IWLCA rankings mirror the Nike/USA Lacrosse Preseason Poll, which also had the Sea Gulls in the fourth spot. Middlebury, Tufts and TCNJ were slotted above Salisbury in the preseason poll while Gettysburg rounded out the top five.
Salisbury finished the 2022 season with its second consecutive Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship, its 23rd overall and 19th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, and a trip to the NCAA Regional Final.
The Sea Gulls are scheduled to clash with 10 teams in the ILWomen/IWLCA Top 25, including seven of the top 10. Salisbury has back-to-back ranked showdowns in February with No. 18 Catholic on Saturday, Feb. 18, followed by a top-10 battle with No. 8 Washington & Lee on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The Sea Gull will also face off with No. 2 Tufts, No. 3 TCNJ, No. 5 Gettysburg, No. 6 Franklin & Marshall, No. 7 Colby, No. 9 William Smith, No. 12 York, and No. 19 Denison during the regular season.
Salisbury opens the season at home on Saturday, Feb. 11 against Stevenson. The game is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
