Five arrested for stealing over $92k worth of merchandise from multiple outlet stores

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Police say five suspects have been arrested in connection with multiple shopliftings in the Rehoboth Beach area.

At around 3:30 p.m. Monday, troopers were called to respond to the Cosmetic Company outlet store for a reported shoplifting. It was reported that four women and one man had fled from the store with stolen merchandise and drove off in a light blue minivan with California registration. Troopers were able to locate a vehicle matching the description traveling northbound on Route 1 near Broadkill Bridge and initiated a traffic stop.

The trooper made contact with all occupants, identified as 20-year-old Vidu Miclescu (driver), 41-year-old Mirela Velcu, 29-year-old Madalina Pirvu, 34-year-old Speranta Dumitru, and 37-year-old Ancuta Ignat. The stolen merchandise was seen in plain view inside of the vehicle, and all subjects were taken into custody.

A search of the review led to the discovery of approximately $92,322.98 worth of stolen merchandise, which included fragrances, clothing, purses, and blankets, $9,866 in cash, two large fixed blade knives, and brass knuckles. Police say at this time, there have been three stores identified as having merchandise stolen by the suspects; Cosmetic Company Outlet, Cracker Barrel, and the Coach Outlet.

Vidu Miclescu was held at SCI on a $16,150 secured bond on a list of charges.

Velcu, Pirvu, Dumitru, and Ignat were all held at the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $16,000 secured bond each.
