UPDATE: Further details released in Smyrna death investigation

2/14 UPDATE: Police have released more information on this death investigation.

Police have identified the deceased males in this investigation as 63-year-old Anthony Smith and his teenage son.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that for unknown reasons, Smith shot his son twice in the upper extremities with a handgun before turning the weapon on himself and committing suicide.

A motive for the incident remains under investigation.

No further information about the teenage victim will be released out of respect for his family members.

2/7 UPDATE: Smyrna Police are investigating these suspicious deaths as an apparent murder-suicide.

We’re told that officers who responded to the home for a welfare check found two deceased males in the upstairs living room area. Both victims reportedly died from gunshot wounds to their upper extremities. It is believed that the victims were a father and son.

Detectives are continuing to investigate a motive in this incident. The victim’s identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

SMYRNA, Del. – Smyrna Police detectives are conducting a suspicious death investigation in the 2000 block of Providence Drive.

Details are limited at this time. We’re told investigators are currently on the scene with two deceased individuals. The investigation is in its early stages and is active and ongoing.

More details will be released as they become available. Police say there is no threat to public safety.
