BHM: Everything Legendary
In 2019, Everything Legendary was born, created with 5 HBCU alumni with a goal to create a plant-based food service with a greater purpose.
Both Duane and Danita had parents that were suffering from health issues such as lupus and liver cancer and were well aware of the health disparities the Black community faces, and wanted to offer a solution. To make sure current generations don’t continue to follow the same trend, the team got to work creating plant-based food for their family to try.
“I saw my whole family change their lives. I saw them change their lifestyle, their food that they were in-taking, you know it’s important for our household to eat healthy and this platform gives us the opportunity to help others.”
Danita also notes the importance of instilling these habits when young and values having her daughter play a role in those efforts.
“It’s was pretty amazing to have my daughter understand that her parents are the creator of a planted based product and it’s kid approved we usually use her friends as the focus groups. it’s pretty amazing to see her embracing it and having her friends come along on the journey.”
Having a goal is one thing, but making that goal a reality is where hard work and dedication pay off, especially when starting a business during the pandemic. To start drumming up support, the team started serving at different DC Pop-up Fairs and street festivals during the summer of 2019, before making a move that helped the service take off.
“The true story is that I was watching TV one Night and it came on the Tv show “Hey apply for season 12 episode 15 of Sharktank and we just applied.”
The gameplan was successful and the team received $300,000 in funding from Shark judge Mark Cuban.
Everything Legendary has already reached a deal to serve at Bowie State University and are currently finalizing a deal with Morgan State.
