SALISBURY, Md. – TidalHealth has provided an update following Sunday morning’s parking garage incident.

At around 3:45 a.m., a vehicle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed entered Garage A (employee parking garage) through the gate near the Educational Center and hit an outside wall running parallel to East Carroll Street. This caused a limited structural failure of the garage at the area of the accident, and a section of the second deck fell through to the ground floor below. Structural engineers responded to the site and determine that the garage overall is structurally sound. However, due to the impact and significant damage, Garage A will remain closed until further notice.

We’re told the area of the accident is where the damage is located, there were no cars parked below, and the only vehicle damaged was the one in the accident. The driver was luckily not injured but was taken to the Emergency Center for evaluation. All vehicles in Garage A at the time of the accident have been removed.

Engineers will be working with TidalHealth on a cleanup and reconstruction plan. The garage closure is anticipated to be lengthy. Perimeter fencing has been placed around the structure for safety and security purposes, and everyone is asked to avoid the area for their own protection, as it is now an active construction zone.

There will be no disruption of services or parking for the public, as this occurred in the employee parking garage. The visitor garage (Garage B) is open, unaffected, and dedicated to visitor and patient parking.
