Seaford defense lifts Jays to victory
LAUREL, Del. – Seaford is not known for their defense, but when the Jays needed a big play to finish off Laurel, it came from their defense. Aviyon Matthew’s steal and coast-to-coast bucket in the final minute helped lift Seaford to a 68-63 win against their Henlopen rivals before a sellout crowd Thursday night.
Laurel tied the game three times in the final three minutes of action. Twice on short jumpers by Dontarius Jones, and once on a corner 3 by Joel Parker.
The Bulldogs held possession with 45 seconds remaining in a tied game when Aviyon Matthews’ steal and transition lay-up changed the momentum in the game’s closing moments.
