Police: Millsboro man crashes car, tries to steal another
LEWES, Del. – A Millsboro man is behind bars on DUI charges after police say he crashed his car and tried to steal another early Wednesday morning.
According to police, the incident began as a vehicle crash investigation shortly before 12:30 a.m., on John J. Williams Highway, east of Dorman Road. When troopers arrived at the scene, it was learned that the driver of a red Cadillac Escalade had fled the scene on foot after he hit the back of an unoccupied construction truck that was parked on the shoulder. As he fled from the area, the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Richard Mullins, allegedly tried to steal another work truck, but the worker was able to remove the keys from the ignition before he could leave.
Troopers searched for Mullins in the surrounding area, locating him as he was running away westbound on John J. Williams Highway. Mullins reportedly ignored commands to stop, but a trooper was able to take him into custody after a short foot chase and taser deployment. Mullins reportedly showed signs of impairment at the time of his arrest.
Mullins was charged with attempted theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, failure to comply with taking of photographs and fingerprints, DUI, and numerous traffic charges. He was held at SCI on a $6,400 cash bond.
