SEAFORD, Del. – Police say a Hebron man was killed in a crash Monday morning in the Seaford area.
According to police, the crash took place just after 7 a.m. A 2012 Hyundai Sonata was traveling northbound in the left lane of Sussex Highway, approaching the intersection at Lakeside Road. At the same time, a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier was stopped in the northbound left lane of Sussex Highway for a stopped school bus that was picking up children and had its red lights flashing and stop sign extended. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Sonata allegedly failed to stop for the school bus and did not see the stopped Cavalier, hitting its rear and causing both cars to be propelled off of the road after impact.
The driver of the Sonata, a 19-year-old man from Fruitland, was taken to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Cavalier, a 69-year-old Hebron man, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.
The school bus was not hit, and no children were injured. No other vehicles were involved in this crash. Possible charges are pending the results of the investigation.
