Local non-profit to host service project for homeless youth in honor of MLK holiday

SALISBURY, Md. – In honor of the upcoming MLK holiday, The Fenix Youth Project is hosting a community drive in support of local homeless youth.

The “King Day” service project is the non-profit’s first outreach effort of the year.

They’re asking for donations for items like hygiene products, undergarments, coats and gloves, and more.

Executive Director Amber Green says the goal is to engage with homeless youth and give back just as Dr. King would have. “Not everyone in the homeless population is street homeless, especially with our youth. Some of our homeless youth are couch surfing or they’re staying in hotels,” Green said.

“It’s a day for our organization and our community to really walk the steps that he laid before us as far as putting the community first.”

Those donations will be accepted at the Fenix Youth Project’s drop-in center Monday January 16th from noon-4 p.m.

The collected items will then be distributed to the local homeless population.
